Partnership With DNR, St. Paul Saints Highlights Fishing
A partnership between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the St. Paul Saints Professional Baseball Club kicks off Saturday, May 24, and will feature in-game contests and announcements, an opportunity to buy a fishing license just inside the front gate of Midway Stadium and the chance to enter a nationwide sweepstakes to win a boat and trailer and other prizes.
“This is a great opportunity for one popular summertime activity to complement another,” said Jenifer Matthees, who is overseeing the partnership as part of coordinator for the DNR angler retention project. “Summertime is baseball time for many Minnesotans but it’s also the time of year when 80 percent of Minnesota angling takes place.”
In addition to the nationwide grand prize sweepstakes of a boat, features of the Saints fishing promotion will include humorous fishing and boating videos, between-inning contests, featuring an ongoing “Fish or No Fish” game and other whimsical prizes.
“Our players, coaches and the majority of our loyal fans have a natural love for boating and fishing, so this is the perfect partnership,” said Annie Huidekoper, the Saints vice president of community partnerships. “Who doesn’t want to come watch great baseball, enjoy the Saints signature fun and games, get a fishing license and have a chance to win a boat at the end of the season?”
Minnesota fishing licenses will be available for purchase at Saints home baseball games before and during the game on Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, against the Fort Worth Cats and Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, against the Wichita Wingnuts. Saints home games are played at Midway Stadium, 1771 Energy Park Drive, St. Paul.
The annual promotion, which is part of partnership this summer with minor league baseball throughout the country, is an effort by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation to help increase participation in boating and fishing nationwide.
