The S.C. Department of Natural Resources, along with the Harry Hampton Memorial Fund, will host a youth fishing event Saturday June 7, at Dargan’s Pond in Darlington County from 9 a.m. to noon. All area youth 15 years and younger are invited to participate. Last year’s event attracted over 130 people.

Accompanied by an adult, all youth can enjoy a day of fishing. Participants are encouraged to bring their own cane poles; a limited number will be available at the event. Children will be able to catch and keep up to three fish. In addition to fishing, there will be free refreshments and door prizes. Dargan’s Pond is a barrier free facility.

Folks are encouraged to come out and experience a free and fun day of fishing. Dargan’s Pond is located off County Road 495, just north of I-95. Call (843) 661-4766 for more information.

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) continues to support programs such as SC Reel Kids as a way of educating South Carolina’s youth of our state’s natural heritage. Fishing rodeos are a unique opportunity for families to come together and spend quality time learning why “Life’s Better Outdoors”.

The goal of DNR’s SC Reel Kids program is to help children learn about and enjoy their natural environment.  As an SC Reel Kid, children will do more than just go fishing. They will work toward goals like catching their first fish, learning about fish and improving fish habitats. Each child will receive a reward for each goal completed. SC Reel Kids is a free program for parents and children or families. The DNR’s SC Reel Kids aquatic education program is supported with federal Sportfish Restoration Funds, which returns money to state natural resources agencies from excise taxes on fishing equipment for conservation projects and habitat protection and restoration.

DNR protects and manages South Carolina’s natural resources by making wise and balanced decisions for the benefit of the state’s natural resources and its people.
