Oahe Downstream to Host Activities for National Get Outdoors Day
A wide variety of family activities will take place throughout the day, including fish-golfing, geocaching, Dutch oven cooking, a snorkeling demonstration, a nature hike and various other outdoor activities. Kids will also get a chance to practice boating safety with U.S. Army Corps of Engineer mini-boats they can operate on the water.
The activities run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CT), and the day closes with an outdoor movie at 9:30 p.m. The events are free, although a park entrance license is required.
The event is sponsored by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks, the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Fort Pierre National Grasslands.
National Get Outdoors Day is an outgrowth of the Get Outdoors USA! campaign, which encourages Americans, especially our youth, to seek out healthy, active, outdoor lives and embrace our parks, forests, refuges and other public lands and waters.
Gov. Mike Rounds proclaimed June as Great Outdoors Month in South Dakota, and encourages citizens and visitors to take advantage of the many opportunities the state offers for family outdoor recreation.
