Fort Sisseton Historic State Park Hosts ‘A Taste of History’ LAKE CITY, S.D. – Fort Sisseton Historic Sate Park near Lake City will host “A Taste of History” on June 21. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will demonstrate the cooking methods from the mid to late 1800s while showing attendees alternative ways to cook while camping.

“Beginning at 10 a.m. Faye Bartz will be teaching the art of bread making with a wood burning stove. Then at approximately 11 a.m. we will use a Dutch oven to prepare a breakfast mash that includes ingredients like potatoes, onions, and bell peppers cooked with eggs, bacon, and cheese. If time permits, we will also do some minor pit fire cooking to make foods like roasted bread on a stick, baked apples, or campfire potatoes,” said Katie Bogue, Fort Sisseton Park Manager. The event is open to all ages; although, children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult.

Fort Sisseton State Park is located 10 miles southwest of Lake City off SD Hwy 10.
