Learn to Canoe at Lewis and Clark Recreation Area YANKTON, S.D. – Lewis and Clark Recreation Area will host Canoeing 101 on July 7, designed to teach participants the basics of canoeing.

Trained professionals from the National Park Service will teach participants stroke techniques, how to properly get in and out of the canoe, safety measures and other basic skills. Canoes, lifejackets and other equipment will be provided.

The class is open for ages 12 and older, though a parent or guardian must sign a waiver for individuals under 18. Pre-registration is required, which can be done at the park’s Welcome Center, and the number of participants is limited. The class is free, although a park entrance license is required.

The class is the first of three planned throughout the summer. Additional sessions will be held on July 19 and Aug. 14.
