Permits for Special Youth Dove Hunt Available to NC ResidentsMOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (Aug. 11, 2008) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will conduct a special dove hunt for youth on opening day, Sept. 1 at Mountain Island State Forest.

The hunt is limited to 20 youth, 12 to 15 years old, who will be selected at random by computer from the pool of applicants. Part of the Permit Hunting Opportunities, this dove hunt provides youth with an enjoyable and memorable outdoor experience while introducing them to safe and responsible hunting.

The cost is $5 per youth hunter and the deadline for application has been extended to Aug. 31. Applications can be made with any Wildlife Service Agent or by phone with a MasterCard or Visa at (888) 248-6834. Please designate Item #8110.

“Having this area available at this time, for a few lucky young people, really is a special opportunity,” said BB Gillen, outdoor skills coordinator with the Wildlife Resources Commission. “We welcome their involvement in a great outdoor activity.”

Before the hunt, an applicant must have successfully completed a hunter education course. During the hunt, the youth must be accompanied by a licensed adult.
