Ski By Candlelight at Hayes Lake State Park Feb. 7The public is invited to ski by the light of the moon and the glow of candlelight at Hayes Lake State Park from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 7.

Up to 1.5 km of groomed ski trails will be lit with candle luminaries for the event. There will be a trail stop midway, where skiers can gather around a campfire and warm up with a cup of hot cider or cocoa.

“The trails are relatively easy and suited to skiers of all ages and abilities,” said Dean Holm, assistant park manager. “Guests are welcome to ski the trails at their leisure and take in the beauty of the snow-covered lake and pines.”

Guests should bring their cross-country skis and meet by the park’s beach picnic shelter. There is no charge for the event, however a vehicle permit is required to enter the park, and the Great MN Ski Pass is required for skiers 16 years or older. The daily vehicle permit and ski pass are both available at the park for $5 each.

Hayes Lake State Park is 15 miles south of Roseau on State Highway 89, then nine miles east on Roseau County Road 4.

For further details, call the park office at 218-425-7504.
