BRECKSVILLE, Ohio – Need a break from big city rock-and-roll? Unwind by skipping rocks and rolling through the countryside by bike or train at Cuyahoga Valley National Park, just a short drive from Cleveland and Akron. It’s a great place to enjoy the waning days of summer before they pass you by.
Get outdoors and walk or bike the park’s 100 miles of trails. You can even bike to one end of the historic towpath and catch the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad back for just $2 on the Bike Aboard! service. Not only does the Cuyahoga Valley offer beautiful landscapes, it is packed with history. In fact, your train operates on tracks that date to 1880, so you can ride back in time. Stop by a visitor center or ask a National Park Service ranger to learn more about Cuyahoga Valley’s contribution to the industrial revolution in the United States.
You can trek out on your own with the Voices of the Valley audio tour, activated by GPS technology, which will guide you and provide interesting tidbits as you make your way through the trails. Be sure to witness the beauty of the Brandywine Falls – the 65-foot waterfall is one of the park’s most stunning displays of nature. Each week, www.nps.gov/getaways features one of the almost 400 national parks to help people find new places to reconnect with nature, history, family, and friends. Previous getaways include Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Boston National Historical Park, North Cascades National Park, Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, and Prince William Forest Park.
