Lake Dubonnet Trail Camp Temporarily Closed
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment announced today that Lake Dubonnet Trail Camp in Grand Traverse County is temporarily closed until mid-April 2010. This temporary closure is due to the removal of numerous diseased red oak trees. Heavy equipment will be working in and around the trail camp, and for public safety the facility will be closed until the work is completed. Lake Dubonnet Trail Camp is designed for large groups, and is typically used by equestrian groups riding the Shore-To-Shore Trail. The Lake Dubonnet State Forest Campground, which is designed for individuals and families, remains open and is not impacted by the tree removal operation. Questions concerning this closure may be directed to Todd Neiss, DNRE recreation specialist, at 231-775-9727. Information regarding other camping opportunities may be found on the DNRE Web site www.michigan.gov/dnre, under Outdoor Recreation. The DNRE is committed to the conservation, protection, management, and accessible use and enjoyment of the state’s environment, natural resources, and related economic interests for current and future generations.
