Felsenthal and Overflow open for youth waterfowl huntCROSSETT – Felsenthal and Overflow national wildlife refuges will be open Feb. 5-6 for the state’s youth waterfowl hunt.

Previous years have yielded earlier youth hunt dates that allowed the refuges to consistently close hunting refuge-wide Jan. 31. The youth hunt dates are not noted in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service*rsquo;s 2010-11 public use brochures because of publishing conflicts, but the FWS will open these refuges to hunters. Hunters must abide by the normal local, state and federal regulations.

“Although the youth hunt dates have changed this year, we didn’t want to have to turn away any youth from a potential hunting opportunity,” said Refuge Manager Bernie Petersen. “We have been receiving several calls to our refuge office regarding the youth hunt and after special consideration was taken, we really couldn’t see not honoring the hunt.”

While visiting the Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, tune your radio to 1620 AM or follow the refuges on Facebook at South Arkansas Refuge Complex. For more information, contact Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, 870-364-3167.
