Reward Offered for Information on Illegal Shooting of a Sandhill Crane near Wisconsin Rapids

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward and asking the public for information regarding the illegal shooting of a sandhill crane. The crane is believed to have been shot in late August in the vicinity of U.S. Highway 54 and 32nd Street in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
The crane remained in the area and was finally captured on Sept. 28. The arrow was removed and the crane is currently under the care of a rehabilitation facility in Antigo, Wis.
The arrow was recovered and Agents from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are currently investigating. Sandhill cranes are a federally protected migratory bird and this act is a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Wisconsin wildlife laws.
