Dakota Flathead Catfish Record Shattered
Davin Holland was using the largest piece of cutbait he had
when he caught the new state record flathead catfish on June 18th
in the James River. The fish, was 63.5 pounds, was 47 inches
long and had a girth of 30 inches.

FINGERLINGS RELEASED TO ENHANCE ANGLER SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE (OH)
A
recently completed stocking of more than 9,300,000 fish in state
waterways by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR)
Division of Wildlife will provide anglers with many great fishing
opportunities in future years. Fifty-four reservoirs around Ohio each received a share of 7,500,000
fingerling saugeye; more than 1,800,000 fingerling walleye were stocked
into an additional 15 lakes. Fish were stocked from mid-May through the
first week of June....

These
fish are 5 to 6 years old and are no longer the best producers for
bass fingerlings at the hatchery. About 750,000 Florida bass
fingerlings are reared and stocked into public waters each year
from the hatchery. These fish have been producing those
fingerlings for the past 4 years, according to hatchery manager
Don Brader. "As they get larger they cost more to feed and keep,
so the best thing is to change some of them out each year."...

Confirms Virus in Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River Fish (NY)
In recent weeks, large numbers
of dead round gobies have
been observed along southern Lake Ontario and eastward through the
Thousand Islands area. More recently, eighteen dead and
dying muskellunge were collected in the Thousand Islands. The St.
Lawrence River supports a world famous, trophy muskellunge
fishery. The timing of these die-offs corresponds with spawning
season for both species, which is a stressful period during which
fish are more vulnerable to bacterial and viral infections.

Largemouth
bass and wild-caught catfish, two popular game fish in North
Carolina’s freshwaters, have been added to the N.C. Division of
Public Health’s (NCDPH) list of fish in the state with high levels
of mercury. As a result of these listings, the agency recommends
