KANOPOLIS STATE PARK TO HOLD PERSONAL WATERCRAFT CLASSES
Course for those 12 years of age and older; required of those 12-15 years old

PRATT -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) is offering a one-day, hands-on personal watercraft course at Kanopolis State Park on June 3. The objective of this class is to teach personal watercraft safety and basic boating skills to anyone 12 years of age or older.

Anyone 12 to 15 years old is required to have a boater education course before operating a personal watercraft, unless accompanied by someone 17 years or older. Insurance premiums may also be reduced for some boaters who have taken the course.

The class will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students must pre-register for the class by phoning the Kanopolis State Park office at (785) 546-2565. This class is free of charge, and KDWP will provide the personal watercraft.

Participants need to bring a sack lunch and a personal floatation device, if they have one. All participants will be required to complete a home study assignment prior to class, and each participant will receive a Kansas boater education certificate at the completion of this course. For more information, phone the park office or conservation officer Greg Salisbury at (785) 488-2646.
