DEP Reopens Swimming Area at Wharton Brook State Park

Kettletown State Park Swimming Area to Remain Closed for the Weekend

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) today reopened the swimming area at Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford after test results indicated the waters were safe for swimming. Wharton Brook’s swimming area had been closed since May 28, 2003.

The swimming area at Kettletown State Park in Southbury, however, will remain closed for the weekend due to elevated levels of indicator bacteria in water samples collected on Wednesday and Thursday, June 4-5, 2003. Kettletown’s swimming area was closed on June 3, 2003.

Next week and throughout the summer, the DEP will test all 21 state swimming areas on Monday and Tuesday, including Kettletown State Park. The results for the swimming areas will be available mid-week.
