GOVERNOR CARCIERI TO DEDICATE CHAFEE STATUE AT COLT STATE PARK
Ceremony to Mark the Transfer of the Memorial to the State from the John H. Chafee Foundation

PROVIDENCE - Governor Donald Carcieri will celebrate the transfer of the Senator John H. Chafee Memorial Statue to the State of Rhode Island from the John H. Chafee Foundation at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17 in Colt State Park. Joining the Governor in the program will be the late Senator's wife, Mrs. Virginia Chafee, and Department of Environmental Management Director Jan Reitsma.

The John H. Chafee Foundation was responsible for construction of the bronze statue, which is located adjacent to the public boat ramp in Colt State Park overlooking Narragansett Bay. Funding for the project, which was in excess of $100,000, was raised through private donations.

The handsome bronze statue is a fitting memorial to the late Senator John Chafee's leadership in the acquisition of Colt State Park in 1965 during his term as Governor. John Chafee's dedicated commitment to the preservation of conservation and recreation lands has left a permanent legacy and the protection of some of the most spectacular sites in the Ocean State, such as Colt State Park in Bristol.

Directions from Providence:
Take Interstate Rte.195 East, to Exit 7, Rte.114 South, to Hope Street in Bristol.
