June 25, 2003 Swimming Area at Gay City State Park Closed to SwimmingThe Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) today closed the swimming area at Gay City State Park in Hebron as a result of elevated levels of indicator bacteria in water samples collected at the park on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. The swimming area will be resampled today, June 25, 2003 the results are expected late Thursday afternoon. In addition to the closure of the swimming area at Gay City, the swimming area at Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford is also closed. Resampling results will be available on Thursday afternoon. The status of the state's 21 swimming areas can be found on DEP's web site at: www.dep.state.ct.us or by calling 1-866-CTPARKS, option 7.
