COLBY TO HOST YOUTH OUTDOOR SKILLS DAY
Shotgunning, archery, map reading, and other outdoor skills to be taught

COLBY ó The Third Annual Youth Outdoor Skills day will be held near Colby on Sept. 20. Any young
person under the age of 16 can participate. Youth Outdoor Skills day will give participants the
opportunity to practice shotgunning, archery, map reading, and other outdoor skills needed to make a
successful hunting trip.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will furnish everything that is needed, including shotguns,
ammunition, and archery equipment. Participants should not bring their personal equipment to this event.
A hunter education card will be required for all who participate. For those who havenít taken a hunter
education course, there will be a class scheduled prior to the Youth Outdoor Skills Day. Students need to
pre-register at the Pirates Den in Colby for the hunter education class. Phone (785) 462-3367 for more

Parents must fill out a registration/liability release form for the Youth Outdoor Skills Day. To receive
forms, phone (785) 462-3367. Return the completed form(s) to: Kansas Department of Wildlife and
Parks, 190 N. Franklin, Colby, KS 67701. Although not mandatory, parents or guardians are encouraged
to attend with youngsters. For youth 10 years and younger, parental attendance is strongly encouraged.
Since Youth Day activities will be outdoors, observe the weather forecast for the day and dress
accordingly. Shorts, sandals, and tennis shoes are inappropriate. Long trousers and high-top lace up
boots are more practical. A hunter orange cap is also recommended.

To get to the event from the intersection of U. S. highways 25 and 24 in Colby, travel four miles north on
Highway 25 to county road TH W. Turn right and drive two miles to County Road TH 21. Turn left and
drive two more miles. The route will be marked; just follow the signs. There will be a sign-in location at
the entrance, so participanats should come to the sign-in station first to sign in and receive information.
