New Hunt Areas Proposed for 2004 Spring Turkey Regulations

CASPER Opening the upper North Platte River Valley to hunting and splitting Niobrara County and the majority of Weston County into a new hunt area highlight Sept. 29 meetings across the state about proposed 2004 spring turkey seasons.

The Game and Fish Department is proposing 20 licenses for the new area 12, the North Platte River Valley from the Colorado State Line to Interstate 80. Niobrara County and Weston County west of U.S. Highway 85 and south of U.S. Highway 16 will be split from the former area 1. That area, along with Converse County north of I-25 would be called area 11.

The G&F is also proposing to establish a general spring turkey license, similar to general deer and elk licenses. The license would allow the holder to hunt in any general license area, which would include 1, 2, 3,5,7 and 11. The emergency late waterfowl regulations will also be presented.

The meetings will be held Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.:

Green River G&F Regional Office

Casper G&F Regional Office

Cody Park County Court House

Lander G&F Regional Office

Cheyenne Dept. of Transportation Auditorium

Sheridan G&F Regional Office

The G&F Commission will act on the regulation proposals at their Nov. 6-7 meeting in Rock Springs.
