DNR Prepares For Hurricane Isabelís Forecasted Arrival

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 16, 2003) - Maryland Department of Natural Resources officials are preparing for the forecasted arrival of the expected storm surges, rain and high winds from Hurricane Isabel:

bulletNatural Resources Police (NRP) is advising that boats should be stored ashore, if possible, including those on davits or lifts. For suggested tips and information on preparing boats for hurricane conditions, see the DNR website at
bulletThe State Forest and Park Service (SFPS) has canceled reservations for Wednesday, Sept. 17 through Sunday, Sept. 21 at Assateague and Janes Island State Parks. And for Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Pocomoke River and Point Lookout State Parks.
bulletSFPS is not accepting additional reservations for Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Elk Neck, Patapsco Valley and Susquehanna State Parks.
bulletSFPS is evaluating current storm tracking information and will consider tomorrow morning the necessity for a mandatory evacuation of Campgrounds on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Assateague, Big Run, Cunningham Falls, Elk Neck, Fort Frederick, Greenbrier, Janeís Island, Patapsco Valley, Pocomoke River, Point Lookout, Susquehanna State Parks and the Popular and Blue Lick areas of Savage River State Forest, Laurel and Lostland Runs of Potomac Garrett State Forest and Bonds Landing of Greenridge State Forest.
bulletThe Albert Powell Fish Hatchery in Hagerstown will be closed to the public for the rest of the week.
