DUCK CALLING CONTEST TO BE PART OF HUNTING AND FISHING DAY
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will host its 19th
Annual National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration in Baton Rouge on
September 27, and this year's attenders will have an opportunity to put
their duck calling skills to the test. The Baton Rouge Sportsmen's League
will hold the Greater Baton Rouge Duck Calling Contest at the event to be
held at the Waddill Outdoor Education Center on Flannery Road.
Participants will compete in one of three divisions: Junior (under 14
years old), Intermediate (14 to 16 years old), or Senior (17 years or
older). Callers are asked to visit the Louisiana Wildlife Federation
exhibit to register prior to the commencement of the contest at 1 p.m.
There is no charge to compete.
The structure for the contest will follow the guidelines of the State Duck
Calling Contest. Four basic calls (hail, comeback, lonesome hen and
feeding) must be demonstrated within a 90 second period.
This year's winners in each division will be registered to compete in the
State Duck Calling Contest on October 18. They will also be presented with
prizes from the Louisiana Wildlife Federation.
The Baton Rouge celebration of Louisiana's National Hunting and Fishing
Day opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the
public, with free food and soft drinks available.
