Sgt. John Pettis Selected as WRD Law Enforcement Supervisor of the Year

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) recently selected Sgt. John Pettis as the 2003 WRD Law Enforcement Supervisor of the Year.  Sgt. Pettis is a 29-year veteran of the Law Enforcement Section and supervises a work unit in Southwest Georgia.  The WRD Law Enforcement Supervisor of the Year is nominated for this award based on their outstanding leadership ability and the accomplishments he and his work unit have achieved over the past twelve months.

“Sgt. Pettis is well respected around the state by many agencies and widely recognized as a professional law enforcement officer,” says WRD Chief of Law Enforcement Col. Ron Bailey.  “His integrity as a leader, and his loyalty and commitment to the Department of Natural Resources and the associates he supervises is unquestionable.”

Sgt. John Pettis began his career with WRD 1974.  He was promoted to Corporal in 1976 and Sergeant in 1977.  In 1995 he became a Sergeant Supervisor in Southwest Georgia.  He has been a P.O.S.T. Instructor for over 20 years and has trained, directed and supervised many outstanding associates throughout his career.  Over the years, he has been the recipient of many local, regional and state awards.  Some of the more significant recognitions he has received include, State Ranger of the Year from the National Wild Turkey Federation, Georgia Peace Officer of the Year for Valor (1981) and State Investigator of the Year (2000).  Pettis also supervises several rangers who have received statewide recognition.  His associates view him as honest, trustworthy, fair and professional.
