Lumberjackin' Bluegrassin' Jamboree at Twin Falls Resort State Park October 10-12
The 21 st Annual Lumberjackin' Bluegrassin' Jamboree at Twin Falls Resort State Park is scheduled for October 10 through 12, 2003. A family-oriented event, the jamboree features a woodman's competition, bluegrass music and a variety of arts and crafts by area residents.
The event will start on Friday, October 10, at 6 p.m. at the amphitheater with local story teller David "Bugs" Stover. This presentation will consist of ghost stories and traditional Appalachian tales of Southern West Virginia .
Arts and craft exhibits are open Saturday, October 11 at 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. These exhibits will be within the interior and exterior of the Twin Falls lodge area. Pork rinds, funnel cakes, homemade candies, flower arrangements, quilts, paintings and wood crafts will be some of the items available at this event.
Tours of the Pioneer Farm will be given both Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. The operation of a grist mill and farm livestock will be some of the topics covered during this activity.
Lumberjacks from Gilbert Lumber Co., West Virginia University and Virginia Tech will be at the ballfield for woodsman competition and demonstration. Team events will include cross cutting, ax throwing, log rolling, horizontal chopping and more. This event is scheduled for Saturday only and begins at 10 a.m. and ends around 1 p.m.
Don Blanchard will demonstrate the art of chainsaw carving on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. With the use of his chainsaw, Don is able to carve bears, raccoons and various other figurines.
From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. , bluegrass music will be preformed at the amphitheater by the talented Accord Family Band. The Accord family is from Wyoming Co. and has preformed at the festival since its early beginnings. At 7 p.m. , the colorful Lou Maiuri will be at the amphitheater to teach and preform traditional Appalachian dances such as flat footing.
Sunday, October 11 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. , the Mountain Valley Cloggers will be performing old time bluegrass dances and updated routines. The Accord Family will again be performing their music from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. These performers will be at the amphitheater.
Twin Falls Resort State Park is located along Rt. 97 in Wyoming Co. This event is open to the public and there is no admission cost. Visitors should bring their own lawn chairs and dress in warm clothing. For more information, contact the park at (304) 294-4000 or 1-800-CALL WVA.
