Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers in Volusia County are investigating a boating accident that occurred in Ponce Inlet late yesterday.

A 67-foot Hatteras motor yacht ran aground on submerged rocks at the north end of the jetty about 10 p.m., Tuesday. Efforts to release the boat were hampered by an outgoing tide, and the yacht eventually capsized. Salvage efforts were still underway today to remove the wreckage.

At the time of the accident there was only one person on board who escaped without injury. However, the boat wasnt as fortunate.

The boat appears to be a total loss, said Lt. Steve Van Nortwick, an FWC law enforcement supervisor in Volusia County.

Charges are pending the completion of the FWCs investigation.
