Fall Fun Fest At Deep Creek Lake State Park, Oct. 4

DEEP CREEK LAKE, MD (September 29, 2003) Deep Creek Lake State Park staff and park volunteers will host the Fall Fun Fest at Deep Creek Lake State Park in Garrett County on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 11 a.m., the Fall Fun Fest will begin with a scarecrow-making event. Participants and their families should bring outfits, old clothes, costumes, or props for creating scarecrows. Participants must also provide the necessary brains, hearts, imagination, and ingenuity. The park will supply thread and cord, straw for stuffing the creatures, and markers to draw scarecrow faces. Participants should expect to escort their new scarecrow friends home with them. At 12:30 p.m. on the deck of the Discovery Center, a contest will be held to judge the merits of the assembled scarecrows.

At 1 p.m., a naturalist will lead a hike into the fall woods. Hikers should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring along light jackets and something to drink. Hiking time will run approximately one hour.

Fall hours at the Discovery Center are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
