FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COASTAL STRIPED BASS FISHERY MANAGEMENT PLAN MEETINGS TO BE HELD IN OCTOBER
RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 30) - The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, along with the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, will hold a series of four public meetings from Oct. 6 through Oct. 9 to receive comments on management options proposed in the draft Striped Bass Fishery Management Plan (FMP).
The plan's goal is to ensure the long-term viability of North Carolina's coastal striped bass populations by conserving spawning stock and protecting critical habitats. The plan consists of two sections: the first focuses on the status and management measures of the Albemarle Sound and Roanoke River stock; the second addresses the status and management measures of stocks in all central/southern waters of coastal North Carolina.
A citizen advisory committee comprising recreational anglers, commercial fishermen and scientists worked with Division of Marine Fisheries and Wildlife Commission staff to draft the Striped Bass FMP.
The public is encouraged to attend the public meetings and provide comments on the draft recommendations. Once public comments have been incorporated into the plan, a final draft of the FMP will be presented to the Marine Fisheries Commission and the Wildlife Commission for adoption.
Meeting dates and locations are:
Oct. 6, 7 p.m. N.C. Aquarium at Roanoke Island, Auditorium 374 Airport Road, Manteo
Oct. 7, 7 p.m. Swain Auditorium 101 Court Street, Edenton
Oct. 8, 7 p.m. Halifax Community College 200 College Drive, Weldon
Oct. 9, 7 p.m. Wayne Community College The Learning Center, Room 210 3000 Wayne Memorial Drive Goldsboro
