COMMISSION TO CONSIDER FISHING REG. CHANGES OCT. 10 AT PONCA SP

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners will consider a variety of fisheries regulation changes and address a number of other issues during an 8 a.m., Oct. 10 meeting in the Resource and Education Center at Ponca State Park.

There will be five public hearings during which public testimony will be heard by the Commissioners. At 8:15 a.m. there will be a public hearing to amend regulations pertaining to sport fishing, bait dealers and collectors, special fishing permits for residents who are severely physically or developmentally disabled and who require assistance in angling, and educational fishing project permits.

Also scheduled are a public hearing to amend boating regulations at 8:30 a.m.; an 8:45 a.m. public hearing to amend wildlife regulations relative to a 2004 spring wild turkey hunting season; a 9:00 a.m. public hearing to consider amending wildlife regulations pertaining to keeping wildlife in captivity; and concerning general regulations and restrictions on importation, exportation, commercialization and release; and a 9:15 a.m. public hearing to create Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area regulations.

The Commission will also:

consider a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January meeting to consider amending provisions in wildlife regulations relating to private wildlife damage control and to amend regulations into compliance with past statute provisions;

consider a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January meeting to consider amending wildlife regulations for application periods and opening dates for the fall wild turkey season;

consider a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January meeting to set deer, antelope and elk permit application periods, required procedures and season dates;

consider a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January meeting to set season dates and consider changes in bag and possession limits for rail, snipe, woodcock, mourning dove, grouse, pheasant, quail, partridge, beaver, muskrat, raccoon, opossum, bobcat, red fox, gray fox, badger, long-tailed weasel, striped skunk, mink, cottontail rabbit and squirrel; and defining the grouse east zone application period;

consider a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the January meeting to clarify the non-hunting buffer zone for light geese along the Platte River;

consider a staff recommendation to accept a gift of a 160-acre tract of wildlife land located in Wayne County;

consider an annual staff recommendation for review and approval of hunting in designated state park areas;

consider a staff recommendation regarding a fee schedule for lodging, camping and related visitor services at various park related facilities;
