Water Body Report
ALAN HENRY Water lightly stained; 80 degrees; 6' low; Black bass are good on albino soft jerkbaits and white spinnerbaits worked along timber with some topwater action. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs.
AMISTAD Water fairly clear; 86 degrees; Black bass to 8 pounds are good on soft plastics and deep crankbaits, and on topwaters early. Striped bass are good on light green striper jigs near the dam and up the Rio Grande. White bass are good on white bomber crankbaits near the dam and up the Rio Grande. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on cheesebait in 30 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.
ARROWHEAD Water clearing; 78 degrees; 11’ low; Black bass are fair on crankbaits and spinnerbaits near rocky areas. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows near flooded timber and derricks. White bass are excellent on shallow flats chasing shad. Blue and channel catfish are good on shad and prepared baits near rocky areas in the upper lake. Due to low water conditions, the only usable boat ramp is West Arrowhead Park.
ATHENS Water lightly stained; 79-85 degrees; 0.24’ high; Black bass are good on topwaters, spinnerbaits, and Tequila Sunrise or Red Shad Texas-rigged 7in. Power Worms in 2 - 3 feet around windy points with lily pads. Night fishing is good on black buzzbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Bream are good on Canadian nightcrawlers and crickets. Athens Bass Club holds an open tournament every Tuesday night (April thru August) from 6 to 10pm. Launch at the public boat ramp.
BASTROP Water murky; Black bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and chartreuse tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, nightcrawlers, and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.
BAYLOR Water lightly stained; 87 degrees; Black bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Catfish are slow.
BELTON Water fairly clear; 594.57’; Black bass are slow on soft plastics. Hybrid striper are slow on yellow-tailed shad in 40 feet. White bass are slow on minnows, silver slabs, and topwaters. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are slow on worms, chicken livers, cheesebait, and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.
BOB SANDLIN Water stained; 78-84 degrees; 0.25’ high; Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and Carolina-rigged french fries. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows over brushpiles. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers.
BRAUNIG Water stained; 79 degrees; Black bass to 6.5 pounds are fair in the bulrush areas and along submerged rock structures. Striped bass are slow on chicken livers and shad. Redfish to 12 pounds are good down-rigging live crawfish, shad, and Rat-L-Traps.
BRIDGEPORT Water off color; 79-84 degrees; 3.19’ low; Black bass are slow to fair on chrome Rat-L-Traps, buzzbaits, and soft plastics. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Hybrid striper are fair to good on Sassy Shad and live shad. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and bloodbait.
BROWNWOOD Water clear to stained; 81 degrees; Black bass are very good on Junebug worms in brushpiles around docks in 10 - 15 feet, and on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits among shallow weeds. Hybrid striper are fair. Lake record 9.56-pound hybrid striper caught by Diane Parker of Abilene. White bass to 2 pounds are excellent on crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, and tube jigs at night on lighted docks. Crappie to 13 inches are good on small tube jigs and minnows under lighted docks in 18 - 25 feet. Channel catfish are fair on cutbait and prepared baits. Yellow catfish are good on live perch and shad in 10 - 15 feet.
BUCHANAN Water clear; 82 degrees; 1018.09’; Black bass are very good on watermelon/red Snap Back jerkbaits, wacky-rigged grape Scoundrel worms, and watermelon tubes at first light in 5 - 10 feet. Striped bass are fair to good bottom trolling ½oz. white/chartreuse Hyper Striper jigs with trailers, vertically jigging Pirk Minnows, and tight-lining live bait. White bass are slow on Tiny Traps and Spoiler Shads on creek points. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are good on rod and reels. Yellow and blue catfish are good on juglines in 40 feet.
CADDO Water stained; 80-86 degrees; 1.63’ high; Black bass are slow on chartreuse spinnerbaits and black jigs with purple passion craw worm trailers. Crappie are slow on minnows and jigs. Fishing reported generally slow due to high water conditions.
CALAVERAS Water stained; 76 degrees; Black bass to 6.5 pounds are slow to fair on soft plastic worms and lizards, and on live perch around the bulrush areas. Striped bass to 3 pounds are slow on chicken livers. Redfish to 14 pounds are good on live crawfish and silver spoons, and down-rigging with Rat-L-Traps and spoons in 15 - 20 feet. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on chicken livers, shrimp, worms, and stinkbait.
CANYON LAKE Water clear; 84 degrees; 910.42’; Black bass are very good on white 7/16oz. Terminator tungsten spinnerbaits, threadfin Frenzy topwaters, and chartreuse Snap Back tubes in 4 - 8 feet early. Striped bass are slow. White bass are good on 1 ½” Lit'l Fishies, white Curb's crappie jigs, and live minnows at night. Smallmouth bass to 3 pounds are fair on pumpkin Devil's Tongues, white 4” Senkos, and crawfish tubes at first light in 6 - 25 feet. Crappie are improving on 1/16oz. Curb's crappie jigs and live minnows tight to standing timber. Yellow and blue catfish are good on trotlines.
CEDAR CREEK Water stained; 78-85 degrees, normal pool; Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and Carolina-rigs. White bass are good on slabs and spoons on main lake humps. Hybrid striper are fair on large 2oz. slabs and Sassy Shad. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around bridges and docks. Catfish are good on cut and live bait on humps.
CHOKE CANYON Water stained; 87 degrees; 220.50’; Black bass to 6 pounds are very good on 3” YUM dark watermelon Wooly Hawgtails and 4” YUM Dingers in 14 - 24 feet in areas with a combination of structure changes and submerged hydrilla beds or submerged bushes, and on crankbaits and spinnerbaits on the outside edges of submerged hydrilla beds. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 10 pounds are very good under floats on Catfish JuJu under the cormorants roost in 10 - 20 feet early, and later on cheesebait and chicken livers around stickups and hardwoods and on the edges of hydrilla in 3 - 14 feet. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch, minnows, and goldfish next to river and creek channels in 20 - 30 feet.
COLEMAN Water clear upper end, stained lower end; 77 degrees; Black bass to 6 pounds are very good on black/blue soft plastic worms and lizards among the salt cedars and willows in the creek mouth in 2 - 5 feet, and on topwaters, spinnerbaits, junebug worms, and crankbaits mid-lake in 5 - 8 feet early. Hybrid striper are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows in 15 - 20 feet. Channel and blue catfish are good on nightcrawlers and chicken livers. Yellow catfish to 32 pounds are good on trotlines baited with live perch.
COLETO CREEK Water slightly stained; 86 degrees (95 degrees at hot water discharge); 98.38’; Black bass to 4 pounds are slow on soft plastics and spinnerbaits in 6 - 8 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie to 1 pound are slow on minnows in 10 feet. Channel and blue catfish to 6 pounds are good on trotlines baited with perch and shrimp in 8 feet. Yellow catfish to 8 pounds are fair on trotlines baited with liver, perch, and shrimp.
COLORADO CITY Water clear; 85 degrees; 4' low; Black bass are slow. Crappie are slow. White bass are slow. Redfish are slow. Catfish are slow.
COLORADO RIVER (At Colorado Bend State Park) Water murky; Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow to fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with liver and live perch. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch and goldfish.
CONROE Water stained; Black bass are slow on crankbaits. Striped bass are slow on striper jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and chartreuse tube jigs. Catfish are good on live bait, shrimp, and liver.
COOPER Water stained; 79-85 degrees; 6.24’ low; Black bass are fair on chartreuse/white buzz and spinnerbaits, Carolina-rigged pumpkinseed french fries, and flukes. Crappie are slow on minnows and jigs. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and prepared baits.
DUNLAP/MCQUEENEY Water stained; 70 degrees; Recent flooding has caused GBRA to continue to release large amounts of water from Canyon Lake. Black bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 22 pounds are excellent on shrimp, nightcrawlers, shad, grasshoppers and prepared baits in 15 - 20 feet. Yellow catfish to 17 pounds are good on live perch and large gizzard shad in 15 – 20 feet.
FAIRFIELD Water stained; 80-88 degrees; No report available.
FALCON Water fairly clear lower end, stained upper end; 85 degrees; 287.27’; Black bass to 5 pounds are fair on green pumpkin or watermelon green Carolina-rigged brush hogs, baby brush hogs, soft plastics, and topwaters in the Veleno area. Catfish are good on stinkbait, liver, shrimp, and nightcrawlers. The State Park and Zapata County ramps are both working, as are most of the Lodge and RV Park ramps. The El Tigre Island ramp is open to the public for a $3/person fee. The San Ignacio ramp is open only for small boats. Launching below the dam on the Rio Grande River is possible at both the Salineno and Chapeno access points. Mexican fishing licenses and boat permits are required to fish in Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico Fishing License whether fishing or not.

HOUSTON COUNTY Water stained with clear shallows; 88 degrees; Black bass to 3 pounds are slow on watermelon seed worms with chartreuse tails evenings and near the north bank on humps with deep water access. Crappie are fair on live minnows over brush in coves with creek channels early morning and late evening. Bream are good on live worms around piers and near islands. Catfish to 4 pounds are good on doughbait near points and piers.
HUBBARD CREEK Water lightly stained; 82 degrees; 16' low; Black bass are good on shad-colored spinnerbaits and crankbaits near shallows and grassy humps, and red soft plastics around reeds. WHITNEY Water murky; 533.98’; Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and soft plastics. Striped bass are fair on live perch and shad. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on live bait and shrimp.
WICHITA Water turbid (from wind); 78 degrees; Crappie are slow. White bass and Hybrid striper are good on minnows and white plastic Road Runner jigs along dam. Channel catfish are good on trotlines and rod and reel baited using large shiners or punch bait. The parking area behind the dam is closed due to construction.
