some topwater action. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. |

Water fairly clear; 86 degrees; Black bass to 8 pounds are good on
soft plastics and deep crankbaits, and on topwaters early. Striped bass
are good on light green striper jigs near the dam and up the Rio Grande.
White bass are good on white bomber crankbaits near the dam and up the
Rio Grande. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on
cheesebait in 30 feet. Yellow catfish are slow. |

ARROWHEAD |
Water clearing; 78 degrees; 11’ low; Black bass are fair on
crankbaits and spinnerbaits near rocky areas. Crappie are fair on jigs
and minnows near flooded timber and derricks. White bass are excellent
on shallow flats chasing shad. Blue and channel catfish are good on shad
and prepared baits near rocky areas in the upper lake. Due to low water
conditions, the only usable boat ramp is West Arrowhead Park. |

minnows and jigs. Bream are good on Canadian nightcrawlers and crickets.
Athens Bass Club holds an open tournament every Tuesday night (April

Lake record 9.56-pound hybrid striper caught by Diane Parker of Abilene.
White bass to 2 pounds are excellent on crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, and
tube jigs at night on lighted docks. Crappie to 13 inches are good on
small tube jigs and minnows under lighted docks in 18 - 25 feet. Channel
catfish are fair on cutbait and prepared baits. Yellow catfish are good
on live perch and shad in 10 - 15 feet. |

watermelon/red Snap Back jerkbaits, wacky-rigged grape Scoundrel worms,
and watermelon tubes at first light in 5 - 10 feet. Striped bass are
fair to good bottom trolling ½oz. white/chartreuse Hyper Striper jigs
with trailers, vertically jigging Pirk Minnows, and tight-lining live
bait. White bass are slow on Tiny Traps and Spoiler Shads on creek

7/16oz. Terminator tungsten spinnerbaits, threadfin Frenzy topwaters,
and chartreuse Snap Back tubes in 4 - 8 feet early. Striped bass are
slow. White bass are good on 1 ½” Lit'l Fishies, white Curb's crappie
jigs, and live minnows at night. Smallmouth bass to 3 pounds are fair on
pumpkin Devil's Tongues, white 4” Senkos, and crawfish tubes at first
light in 6 - 25 feet. Crappie are improving on 1/16oz. Curb's crappie
jigs and live minnows tight to standing timber. Yellow and blue catfish
are good on trotlines. |

spinnerbaits and Carolina-rigs. White bass are good on slabs and spoons
on main lake humps. Hybrid striper are fair on large 2oz. slabs and
Sassy Shad. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around bridges and
docks. Catfish are good on cut and live bait on humps. |

CHOKE CANYON |
Water stained; 87 degrees; 220.50’; Black bass to 6 pounds are very
good on 3” YUM dark watermelon Wooly Hawgtails and 4” YUM Dingers in 14
- 24 feet in areas with a combination of structure changes and submerged
hydrilla beds or submerged bushes, and on crankbaits and spinnerbaits on
the outside edges of submerged hydrilla beds. White bass are slow.
Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 10 pounds are very good
under floats on Catfish JuJu under the cormorants roost in 10 - 20 feet
early, and later on cheesebait and chicken livers around stickups and
hardwoods and on the edges of hydrilla in 3 - 14 feet. Yellow catfish
are good on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch, minnows, and
goldfish next to river and creek channels in 20 - 30 feet. |

6 pounds are very good on black/blue soft plastic worms and lizards
among the salt cedars and willows in the creek mouth in 2 - 5 feet, and

- 8 feet early. Hybrid striper are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows in
15 - 20 feet. Channel and blue catfish are good on nightcrawlers and

287.27’; Black bass to 5 pounds are fair on green pumpkin or watermelon
green Carolina-rigged brush hogs, baby brush hogs, soft plastics, and
topwaters in the Veleno area. Catfish are good on stinkbait, liver,
shrimp, and nightcrawlers. The State Park and Zapata County ramps are
both working, as are most of the Lodge and RV Park ramps. The El Tigre
Island ramp is open to the public for a $3/person fee. The San Ignacio
ramp is open only for small boats. Launching below the dam on the Rio
Grande River is possible at both the Salineno and Chapeno access points.
Mexican fishing licenses and boat permits are required to fish in
Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico Fishing License
whether fishing or not. |
