Water Body Report
ALAN HENRY Water lightly stained; 80 degrees; 6' low; Black bass are good on albino soft jerkbaits, dark jigs, and white spinnerbaits worked along timber. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs.
AMISTAD Water fairly clear; 86 degrees; Black bass to 8 pounds are good on soft plastics and deep diving crankbaits, and on topwaters early. Striped bass are good on light green striper jigs near the dam and up the Rio Grande. White bass are good on white Bomber crankbaits near the dam and up the Rio Grande. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish are good on cheesebait in 30 feet. Yellow catfish are slow.
ARROWHEAD Water clearing; 79 degrees; 11’ low; Black bass are fair on crankbaits near rocky areas. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows near flooded timber and derricks. White bass are good on shallow flats chasing shad. Blue and channel catfish are good on shad and prepared baits near rocky areas in the upper lake. Due to low water conditions, the only usable boat ramp is West Arrowhead Park.
ATHENS Water lightly stained; 80-85 degrees; 0.44’ high; Black bass are good Carolina-rigs, topwaters, and spinnerbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Bream are good on Canadian nightcrawlers and crickets. Athens Bass Club holds an open tournament every Tuesday night (April thru August) from 6 to 10pm. Launch at the public boat ramp.
BASTROP Water murky; Black bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and chartreuse tube jigs. Channel and blue catfish are good on shrimp, nightcrawlers, and stinkbait. Yellow catfish are slow.

BROWNWOOD Water clear to stained; 81 degrees; Black bass are very good on junebug worms in brushpiles around docks in 10 - 15 feet, and on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits among shallow weeds. White bass are good on crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, and tube jigs at night off lighted docks. Crappie are good on small tube jigs and minnows under lighted docks in 18 - 25 feet. Channel catfish are fair on cutbait and prepared baits. Yellow catfish are good on live perch and shad in 10 - 15 feet.
BUCHANAN Water murky upper end, clear lower end; 82 degrees; 1018.36’; Black bass are fair on chartreuse Snap Back tubes, white/chartreuse tungsten spinnerbaits, and Texas-rigged watermelon/red Whacky Sticks in flooded bush at first light in 8 - 14 feet. Striped bass are fair to good bottom trolling 1/2oz. white Hyper Striper jigs with chartreuse trailers, and tight-lining live bait from Flag Island to the dam in 28 - 35 feet. White bass are fair on Spoiler Shads, Pirk Minnows, and Tiny Traps on creek points early in 20 feet. Crappie are slow. Channel catfish are good. Yellow and blue catfish are good.
CADDO Water stained; 80-86 degrees; 1.35’ high; Black bass are slow on chartreuse spinnerbaits and black jigs with purple passion craw worm trailers. Crappie are slow on minnows and jigs. Fishing reported generally slow due to high water conditions.
CALAVERAS Water stained; 79 degrees; Black bass to 6 pounds are fair on soft plastic worms and spinnerbaits around the bulrush areas. Hybrid striper bass are slow on chicken livers and cut shad. Crappie are slow. Redfish to 18 pounds are good on live crawfish and perch, and down-rigging Rat-L-Traps and spoons in 15 - 20 feet. Channel and blue catfish are good on chicken livers, shrimp, nightcrawlers, and stinkbait.
CANYON LAKE Water clear; 83 degrees; 911.81’; Black bass are good on chrome blue Chug Bugs, silver Terminator buzzbaits, and shallow running crankbaits worked through buckbrush and standing timber at first light in 4 - 10 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are good on Swirltail grubs at night under green lights. Smallmouth bass are fair to good on pumpkin Devil's Tongues on drop shot rigs, smoke/red flake Snap Back tubes, and root beer green flake 3” grubs in 12 - 25 feet. Crappie are good on Curb's crappie jigs and live minnows tight to standing timber in 10 - 20 feet. Yellow and blue catfish to 14 pounds are good.
CEDAR CREEK Water clear; 82-84 degrees, 0.37’ high; Black bass are fair to good on flukes over grass and on Carolina-rigs off points. White bass are good on trolling rigs and slabs fished in 19 – 22 feet. Hybrid striper to 9 pounds are good on 2oz. Holiday slabs. Crappie are good on small jigs around shaded boathouses. Catfish are good on liver and shad drifted over humps.
CHOKE CANYON Water stained; 85 degrees; 220.65'; Black bass to 7.5 pounds are very good on 8in. watermelon worms with chartreuse tails, junebug soft plastic lizards, and 6in. YUM Dingers in 11 - 26 feet in areas with a combination of structure changes and submerged hydrilla beds or submerged bushes. White bass are very slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 10 pounds are excellent on Catfish JuJu under cormorant roosts in 10 - 20 fee early. Yellow catfish are good on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch, minnows, and goldfish near river and creek channels in 20 - 30 feet.
COLEMAN Water clear upper end, stained lower end; 77 degrees; Black bass are very good on crankbaits and black/blue soft plastic worms and lizards among the salt cedars and willows in the creek mouth in 2 - 5 feet, and on topwaters, spinnerbaits, and junebug worms mid-lake in 5 - 8 feet early. Hybrid striper are good on live shad. Crappie are fair on minnows in 15 - 20 feet. Channel and blue catfish are slow on nightcrawlers and chicken livers. Yellow catfish are slow on trotlines baited with live perch.
COLETO CREEK Water murky; 86 degrees (90 degrees at hot water discharge); 98.30’; Black bass to 4 pounds are slow on soft plastics and spinnerbaits in 6 - 8 feet. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie to 1 pound are slow on minnows in 8 - 12 feet. Channel and blue catfish to 5 pounds are fair on trotlines baited with perch and shrimp in 8 feet. Yellow catfish to 15 pounds are fair on trotlines baited with liver and perch.

COLORADO RIVER (At Colorado Bend State Park) Water murky; Black bass are slow. Striped bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow to fair on minnows. Channel and blue catfish are good on trotlines baited with liver and live perch. Yellow catfish are fair on trotlines and juglines baited with live perch and goldfish.
CONROE Water stained; Black bass are slow on crankbaits. Striped bass are slow on striper jigs. Crappie are fair on minnows and chartreuse tube jigs. Catfish are good on live bait, shrimp, and liver.
COOPER Water stained; 79-85 degrees; 6.05’ low; Black bass are fair on chartreuse/white buzz and spinnerbaits, Carolina-rigged pumpkinseed french fries, and flukes. Crappie are slow on minnows and jigs. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and prepared baits.
DUNLAP/MCQUEENEY Water stained; 70 degrees; Recent flooding has caused GBRA to continue to release large amounts of water from Canyon Lake. Black bass are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are slow. Channel and blue catfish to 22 pounds are excellent on shrimp, nightcrawlers, shad, grasshoppers and prepared baits in 15 - 20 feet. Yellow catfish to 17 pounds are good on live perch and large gizzard shad in 15 – 20 feet.
FAIRFIELD Water stained; 80-88 degrees; No report available.
FALCON Water clear lower end, stained upper end; 85 degrees; 287.29’; Black bass to 9 pounds are good on Heddon topwaters and scum frogs in the Veleno area, deep-running crankbaits under trees, and green pumpkin or watermelon red/green Carolina-rigged brush hogs and baby brush hogs off points and drop-offs. Catfish are good on stinkbait, liver, shrimp, and nightcrawlers around Marker 12. The State Park and Zapata County ramps are both working, as are some of the Lodge and RV Park ramps. The El Tigre Island ramp is open to the public for a $3/person fee. The San Ignacio ramp is open only for small boats. Launching below the dam on the Rio Grande River is possible at both the Salineno and Chapeno access points. Mexican fishing licenses and boat permits are required to fish in Mexican waters. Everyone in the boat must have a Mexico Fishing License whether fishing or not.

HOUSTON COUNTY Water clear; 83 degrees; Black bass to 8 pounds are very good on watermelon seed french fries and red/black Senkos in the east end of the lake. Crappie are very good on live minnows near the dam in 15 feet, and around brush in 8 – 10 feet. Bream are very good on live worms off piers and near the islands. Catfish to 5 pounds are good on trotlines baited with cut shad.
HUBBARD CREEK Water lightly stained; 82 degrees; 15.6' low; Black bass are good on shad-colored spinnerbaits and crankbaits near shallows and red soft plastics around reeds. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. White bass and hybrid striper are fair on live baits. Catfish are good on live baits.

WICHITA Water turbid (from wind); 78 degrees; 3” low; Crappie are slow. White bass and hybrid striper are good on minnows and white Road Runner jigs along dam. Channel catfish are good on trotlines and rod and reel baited using large shiners or punch bait. The parking area behind the dam is open.
