Indiana Dunes State Park to host annual storytelling festival and Kidís Fall Funfest Oct. 16 and 17

Two popular festivals with activities for the whole family will return to Indiana Dunes State Park on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16 and 17.

The 15th Annual Northwest Indiana Storytelling Festival begins at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 16 with a workshop for anyone who has ever wanted to learn to tell stories. Childrenís stories begin at 11:30. The popular ghost stories program begins at 7 p.m. Fabulous, favorite fables will take place between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday. All events will be held in the nature center.

Storytelling festival hours are:

Saturday, Oct. 16 10:30 a.m. Ė 3 p.m. & 7 - 8 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 17 10:30 a.m. Ė 3 p.m.

The popular Kidís Fall Funfest will also return to the park on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16 and 17. The festival will be held in and around the three shelters (Wilson, Duneside, and Tremont), closest to the nature center, and will be the place to find music, food, and fun!

Fall Funfest hours are:

Saturday 10 a.m. Ė 4 p.m.
Sunday noon Ė 4 p.m.

The Kidís Fall Funfest activities will focus on the theme "How Plants and Animals Prepare for Winter." Leaf -rubbing, beeswax candle making, and animal tracks are some of the activities that will be offered.

Each child will need to have a souvenir stamp book to participate in the activities. The books will be available for $1 at the welcome booth. The book will act as a ticket to the activities.

The Friends of Indiana Dunes and Indiana Dunes State Park are sponsors of the event. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at either festival.

The entrance fees to the park are $4 for in-state vehicles and $8 for out-of state vehicles. For more information, please contact the Indiana Dunes State Park Nature Center at (219) 926-1390.
