WEEK EVENTS SET IN SOUTH CAROLINA JUNE 4-12
Fishing classes, youth fishing rodeos and Free Fishing Days will help
celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week June 4-12 in South Carolina.
National Fishing and Boating Week June 4-12 aims to increase the
enjoyment of fishing and boating and promoting environmental stewardship,
according to BeBe Harrison, aquatic education coordinator for the S.C.
Department of Natural Resources (DNR). "This celebration is all about
re-connecting families in our communities through fishing and boating,"
Harrison said. "What better way to learn about the environment, or to enjoy
wholesome family activities, than through fishing and boating."

Following is the schedule of upcoming youth fishing rodeos and events in

 | June 4-Florence County, Youth Fishing Rodeo, Dargan Pond. For

 | June 7-Columbia, Fishing 101 Class. 6-8 p.m., Styx Fish Hatchery. An
introductory fishing class for the new angler, or for those who haven't
fished in a while. Learn how to cast, tie on a hook, and land a fish.

 | June 8-Lexington, Lake Murray, Ladies on the Lake workshop, part of
the South Carolina Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program. For more

 | June 9-Columbia, How to Pick Your Perfect Bait: Selecting the bait for
the species you are after. 6-8 p.m. Learn from a "pro" how to select the
perfect bait for a particular fish species. This class includes
instruction in choosing live bait and artificial lures, including many
types of worms and plastic baits, monofilament, hooks, sinkers, floats and
more. Program is geared toward adults. Reservations required, call (803)
