IDNR Announces Opportunity for Pheasant Hunters
Applications Accepted Now for Public/Private Partnership
Controlled Pheasant Hunting Areas

Springfield—Illinois pheasant hunters will find an easier and more efficient means of applying for permits this year. Applications are currently being accepted for hunting at the public/private partnership controlled pheasant hunting sites. These pheasant hunting sites include Chain O’Lakes State Park in Lake and McHenry Counties, Silver Springs State Park in Kendall County, Ramsey Lake State Park in Fayette County and Horseshoe Lake State Park in Madison County.

“The online permit application system makes the process very simple,” said Joel Brunsvold, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. “Additionally, because it is a random computer drawing, any person submitting an application has an equal chance of receiving a permit.

To access the permit application, computer users should visit www.dnr.state.il.us, and click on the “hunting” icon or visit www.lrsidnrpermits.com. The system has been customized for the public/private partnership sites. The changes were made in cooperation with the Controlled Pheasant Hunting Program of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. T. Miller, Inc. is implementing this change in response to requests by many hunters for the use of credit cards and for an Internet based application system.

“With the mail-in/phone-in application system many hunters were unable to get hunting dates especially weekends and holidays,” said Brunsvold. “The new system will be more equitable to all applicants and will distribute hunting opportunity to a greater number of hunters.”

Those hunting at the public/private partnership sites with T. Miller, Inc. will be allowed multiple permits, the opportunity to harvest up to four pheasants per day, afternoon hunts at Silver Springs and Chain O’ Lakes, and the opportunity to transfer permits among hunters, between dates and to other public/private partnership sites if dates are available. While the first drawing has been completed, applications for the second drawing will be accepted through July 29th at 12:00 midnight CDT. A third random drawing period will begin on August 1st at 8:00 a.m. through August 12th at 12:00 midnight CDT for hunters wanting a second permit.
