GRAB YOUR FISHING TACKLE; WYOMING CELEBRATES FREE FISHING DAY JUNE 3

CHEYENNE - It’s like the grocery store concept of handing out free samples: Get the customer to try one with the hope of buying the product and using it for a lifetime.

Potential and returning anglers can experience that very healthy sample June 3 with Wyoming’s fourth free fishing day. Anyone - resident or nonresident - can fish that day in most of Wyoming without a license. Anglers will still be subject to all other fishing laws and regulations. Fishing licenses are still required in Yellowstone National Park and the Wind River Indian Reservation on June 3.

"The free day is a great way to get acquainted or reacquainted with fishing," said Janet Milek, Game and Fish Department aquatic education specialist.

She adds the date coincides with the start of National Fishing and Boating Week and will be celebrated with many local events across the state.

June 3 Activities:
Cheyenne - Family Fishing Day, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Lion’s Park Old Community Center/Sloans Lake
Cody - Kids' Fishing Day, registration starts at 8:30 with lunch served at noon, Beck Lake Recreation Area
Powell -20th Annual Kids' Fishing Day, 6 a.m. to noon, register with Powell Recreation District
Riverton - Kiwanis Kids' Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs; 8a.m. to 1p.m., Big Bend Ponds
Jackson - Jackson Kids' Fishing Day, 11a.m.-3p.m., Jackson National Fish Hatchery Pond

Fishing events later in the month include:
June 10 - Saratoga - Saratoga Kids Fishing Day, 8 a.m. to noon, Saratoga Inn Pond
June 10 - Dubois - Scouts Pond, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
June 17 - Rock Springs - Take a Kid Fishing 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sweetwater County Events Complex in Rock Springs, Lower Pond.
