Sixth Annual Dead Creek Wildlife Day Is Set For Oct. 6

A demonstration on how to train a retriever is just one of the events at Dead Creek Day on Saturday, Oct. 6 in Addison. - By Lilla LumbraWaterbury, VT - Anyone who enjoys wildlife should plan on being in Addison, Vermont on October 6 for the sixth annual Dead Creek Wildlife Day.

Activities at Dead Creek Wildlife Day are especially for people who enjoy hunting, fishing, birdwatching, or learning about Vermont's diverse wildlife. The location is the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Fish & Wildlife Department Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area on Route 17 west of Route 22A in Addison.

Early risers can begin the day with bird banding demonstrations starting at 7:00 a.m. Two large tents at the Dead Creek WMA headquarters will open at 9:30 a.m. featuring wildlife-related exhibits and kids' craft activities, like face painting and building bluebird boxes.

The main events run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include field trips, illustrated talks, live wildlife presentation, hunting dog training, fishing and hunting tips, and much more. And for those who enjoy an evening stroll, an owl walk at the end of the day on the north end of Snake Mountain begins at 7 p.m.

All events are free and a free shuttle bus will provide regular access to nearby field events throughout the day.

The festival is hosted by Vermont Agency of Natural Resources' departments of Fish and Wildlife and Forests, Parks and Recreation as well as the Otter Creek Audubon Society, Addison County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, Addison County Chamber of Commerce, and Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, Inc.
