Trick shooters will thrill spectators at Game & Fish Outdoor Expo

Ever wanted to be the fastest gun in the west, or at least pretend to be?  Or see someone throw a playing card into the air, draw a pistol and split the card in two as it sails across the sky?

Then be sure to bring your quick draw attitude and see some of the amazing trick-shooting demonstrations at the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Outdoor Expo on March 29-30 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix.

Expert marksman Tim Bradley of Team Benelli can use his shotgun to shoot nine clay targets out of the air in one throw, or can throw a golf ball in the air, draw a pistol and shoot it. He will perform at the Clay Target Center at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. You can watch videos of Bradley in action at www.timbradley.net.

Renowned cowboy action shooter “Evil Roy” (Gene Pearcey) has a room full of competition trophies from a long career in cowboy action shooting, one of the fastest-growing shooting sports in North America. Evil Roy will show the crowd how to quickly and accurately fire six-shooters, lever-action rifles and shotguns. Demonstrations are at the Practical Pistol Range at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 and at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 30.

Spectators will also be thrilled by horse-mounted shooting demonstrations from members of the Arizona Cowboy Mounted Shooters Association, as they deftly shoot balloon targets on pylons while racing by on their sure-footed steeds in the Mounted Shooting Arena.

The shooting demonstrations are just part of the fun activities at the Outdoor Expo, where people can try out firearms, view live wildlife, catch-and-release a fish, shoot a bow and arrow, attend workshops, learn about off-highway vehicle and boating recreation, and visit with more than 150 exhibitors.

Expo hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. The Ben Avery Shooting Facility is located on the northwest corner of I-17 and Carefree Highway in Phoenix. For more information, visit www.azgfd.gov/expo.
