Gunpowder Falls
State Park Invites Youth To Become Junior Rangers & Park Pals This
Summer
Frederick County, Md. — Gunpowder Falls State Park invites
parents to enroll their children to participate in its affordable,
outdoor environmental activities this summer. Registration is now
currently open for Junior Rangers and Park Pals programs at five
different locations in Gunpowder Falls State Park.
“Spending part of their summer-time school break in a Maryland State
Park offers children and teenagers an excellent opportunity to connect
with nature, which is important not only to develop knowledge of our
natural environment, but to also a sense of stewardship and
appreciation,” said Park Manager Mike Browning.
Youth aged 8 to 14 are invited to get outside, discover nature and learn
about the environment through the
Junior
Rangers program. As a junior ranger, youth complete a series of
recreational and conservation-related activities to earn an achievement
badge. Park Pals is designed to introduce children aged 4 to 7 to the
outdoors through games, crafts and activities with a nature theme.
Junior Rangers and Park Pals programs begin in the last week of June and
run through the last week of July with two hour sessions held once a
week for six weeks. Children must attend four out of six sessions and
complete required activities in order to earn a patch.
The cost is $25 per child for Junior Rangers or Park Pals, with a
reduced rate of $10 for additional children in the same family. Visitors
may pick up a free copy of
The Gunpowder Currents or call park headquarters at 410-592-2897
to find out which session’s location and time is the best fit for you.
Spaces are limited, so please RSVP in advance.
